Frankly speaking, no one really knows where they should be in life, but social media often suggests otherwise. Let’s be honest about performative career posts online and how they affect the confidence of those who feel “behind.”

I based this entire project on my own self-doubt about my career path, shaped by the constant comparison culture pushed on social platforms. The idea that you are better or worse than others because you don’t align with someone else’s path isn’t talked about enough. But it’s not about where you are in someone else’s journey, it’s about where you are within your own.

The design is heavily influenced by office objects, a mix of anxiously chewed stationery, awkward “Hello, I am…” icebreakers, and angrily crushed cans at industry events you forced yourself to go to. I wanted to really hone in on creating something relatable, while also being instantly recognisable to the consumer.

FRANK is a social event designed for those who feel uncomfortable or uncertain within their own career journey. Creating a space where honesty is encouraged over performance, challenging the polished narratives often seen online. Throughout the event, icebreaker questions are passed around, prompting open and sometimes uncomfortable conversations about the realities of comparison culture and career pressure. Rather than avoiding these feelings, FRANK leans into them, giving people the opportunity to reflect, relate, and recognise that they are not alone in feeling “behind.”

Although the conversations at FRANK may be uncomfortable, the event is supported by a curated drinks range designed to ease people into the experience. Three alcoholic options are offered alongside non-alcoholic alternatives, reinforcing that this isn’t about drinking as a social crutch, but about choice and inclusivity.

The drinks help create a relaxed, informal atmosphere where attendees feel more at ease opening up. By removing the pressure to perform, FRANK encourages honest conversation and allows people to connect over shared uncertainties rather than polished success.
